Great results from NSW players at the Under 17 Australasian Championships

In addition to winning the June Bevan Trophy, NSW players also performed very well in the Under 17 Australasian Championships.  Austin Yu and Tiffany Ho won the Mixed Doubles.  A number of our players advanced to the Semi-Final stage, Austin Yu in the Boys Singles, Janet Son in the Girls Singles, Austin Yu-Matthew Chan in the Boys Doubles, Tiffany Ho-Janet Son in the Girls Doubles and Matthew Chan-Clarise Koh in the Mixed Doubles.

Excellent achievements from the NSW Under 17 State teams

Congratulation to all the NSW Under 17 teams competing at the 2013 June Bevan Trophy in Altona.  The NSW Thunder team won the June Bevan Trophy defeated Northern New Zealand 10-6 in the team event final.  It is a great result and sweet victory for the players, coach, team managers and supporting parents, considering that the team narrowly lost to Northern NZ by 2 games and 8 matches-all in last year final.

NSW Lightning team also did well finished seventh in the 16 teams event.

Carolyn Toh elected as Executive Member of NSW Olympic Council

Congratulation to Carolyn Toh on her election as Member of the Executive Board of NSW Olympic Council at the recent NSW Oympic Council Annual General Meeting.

It is great achievement from Carolyn and excellent news to NSW Badminton community.

New South Wales Badminton Association is seeking expression of interest from players, coach, manager and umpire for the 2013 Ede Clendinnen Shield and Australian Closed Championships.  The event will be held in Geraldton, West Australia, from 24th August to 1st September 2013.

Excellent achievements from the NSW Under 15 State teams

Congratulation to all three NSW Under 15 teams recently competed at the 2012 Val Nesbitt Trophy and Under 15 Nationals in Caloundra.  The NSW Thunder team won the Val Nesbitt Trophy by convincingly defeated WA 7-1 in the team event final.  NSW Lightning team finished fifth and NSW Storm team came sixth in the 7 teams event.

NSW players also did very well in the Under 15 Nationals Championships.  Huaidong Tang was in all three finals and came away with the Boys Singles and Boys Doubles titles - partnered with Justin Lee.  In addition to winning the Boys Doubles title, Justin Lee is the runner-up in Boys Singles where all finalists are from NSW.  Tiffany Ho was in all three finals and finished as runner-ups in all three.  Janet Son is the runner-up in the Girls Doubles Final partnered Tiffany.

Congratulation to Justin Lee who was awarded the Ross Synot Trophy for being the player with the highest standards of sportmanship, personality, court demeanor, ability, determination and appearance.

NSW has seven players in the carnival's top 10 ranked boys, Huaidong Tang - 1, Justin Lee - 2, Cedric Koh - 6, Leon Tan - 7, Kingston Chan - 8, Eric Ho - 9 and Vincent He - 10.

Five NSW girls are ranked in the top 10 list, Tiffany Ho - 2, Janet Son - 3, Ysabel Say - 4, Katrina Lowe - 6 and Weijin Min - 7.

2012 Ede Clendinnen Shield and Australian Closed Championships

Badminton NSW will host the 2012 Ede Clendinnen Shield and Australian Closed Championships at Sydney Olympic Sports Halls from 25th August to 1 September.

Entry to the events are free.  The tournaments include the team events where all Australian States and Territories entering their strongest teams to compete for the Ede Clendinnen Shield.  Following this is the Australian Closed Championships which is an individual events where top Australian players playing for the titles of Australian Champion in Men Singles, Women Singles, Men Doubles, Women Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Great results for the NSW Under 19 State teams

Congratulations to the NSW Under 19 teams competed at the 2012 CP Maddern Trophy and Under 19 Nationals in Darwin last week.  The NSW team won Silver medal in the team event.

NSW players also performed very well in the Under 19 Nationals.  Four NSW players featured in all Finals.  Buddhima Fernando won the Girls Singles title and finished as Runner-Up in Girls Doubles - partnered with Jennifer Tam.  Cham Chen won the Boys Doubles - partnered with David Ngiam of Queensland.  Cham Chen and Jennifer Tam are the Runner-Up in Mixed Doubles.  Daniel Guda finished as Runner-Up in the Boys Singles.

Congratulation to Buddhima who was awarded the Joy Twinning Trophy.  The Trophy is awarded to the player of the Championships who exhibits the highest standards of sportsmanship, personality, court demeanor, player ability, determination and appearance.

Excellent results for the NSW Under 17 State teams

Congratulations to the NSW Under 17 teams competed at the 2012 June Bevan Trophy and Under 17 Australasian Championships in Hobart over the Easter break.  NSW Thunder team finished the event as the top Australian Under 17 team.  The team won the same of matches, 8-all, as the gold medalist, Northern New Zealand but missed out the top spot by two games (17 games to 19 and 629 points to 650).  NSW Lightning team finished the event with 7th placing, defeated Geraldton WA team 14-2.

NSW players also performed very well in the Under 17 Australasian Championships.  Daniel Guda won all three titles, Boys Singles, Boys Doubles - partnered with Austin Yu of NSW and Mixed Doubles - partnered with Jennifer Tam of NSW.  Jennifer Tam won two titles, Girls Singles and Mixed Doubles.  Jonathan Siu won the Boys Singles Plate and Boys Doubles Plate with Howard Cheng of NSW.  Wynne Chen and Nicole Min won the Girls Doubles Plate.

Daniel Guda and Austin Yu are in the top 10 Boys ranking list with Daniel ranks number 1.  Jennifer Tam tops the Girls ranking list.  Other NSW girls are in the top 10 Girls ranking list are Tiffany Ho, Janet Son and Claudia Lam.

NSW Olympic Council awards Order of Merit to Carolyn Toh, President of Badminton NSW

The New South Wales Olympic Council at their AGM meeting on Monday 19th March 2012 awarded the Order of Merit to Carolyn Toh, President of Badminton NSW.  The NSW Olympic Council President, Helen Brownlee OAM praised the hard work and dedication that Carolyn has contributed to NSW badminton, to badminton in Australia and to Australia's Olympic family.

We wish to congratulate Carolyn for a well-deserved award.  It is a great honour for us in Badminton NSW that NSW Olympic Council has now included Carolyn amongst other previous outstanding recipients of the Order of Merit in recognition of the voluntary works that Carolyn has done for the sport of badminton over the years.

NSW won the 2011 Ede Clendinnen Shield

Congratulation to the NSW Team won the 2011 Ede Clendinnen Shield in Burnie, Tasmania. NSW beat Victoria 8-5 in the play-off for the Shield.  The NSW team includes the following players:

Australian Team won the 2011 Pan Pacific Championships

Congratulations to the Australian Team reclaimed the 2011 Pan Pacific Championships in Ballarat. Australia 1 beat last year’s champion – New Zealand, Australia 2 and newcomer – Singapore Sports School.  It is good to see Singapore Sports School to compete for the first time in the Championships.

NSW Under 17 Team won Bronze medal at the 2011 Australasian June Bevan Trophy

Congratulations to the NSW Under 17 team Thunder finished 3^rd place in the 2011 Australasian June Bevan Trophy. NSW Thunder dominated most of team matches (won mainly 16-0) in the round robins, with the only loss to the eventual champion, Northern New Zealand 1.

The second team, NSW Lightning finished at 8 out of 18 teams. This is a very good result for a team with 6 players who still qualify to participate in next year Under 17 events.

NSW players also performed well in the Individual and end up with 8 players (4 boys and 4 girls) in the Australasian top 10 girls and top 10 boys ranking list. NSW has the biggest number of top 10 players for the tournament. One of the best results ever- Click here for details.
